Lost in the Trees is a look into the less accessible side of Ari
Picker’s songwriting. Unlike much of his back catalogue with The Never
and the B-sides, Lost in the Trees explores the world of dark orchestral folk-pop. His self-titled first release was the product of several years of home recording,
layering track after track of complex pianos, strings, samples, woodwinds,
guitars and vocals to his disarming and radiant compositions. Ari’s traditional pop
sensibilities are far from absent on the record as his dynamic voice and occasional four part
harmonies effortlessly color the strange orchestrations. The record also features contributions
from many of Ari's musical friends from bands including The Never, the B-sides,
Squirrel Nut Zippers, Io and Vibrant Green.
After moving to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music, Ari met a wealth of energetic music students who were happy to join
Lost in the Trees as the backing band for Ari's compositions. Now the Lost in the Trees live show could feature the lush string arrangements that appear on the recordings.
The band helped Ari record the 7-song EP Time Taunts Me over the course of a semester. This set of songs are hi-fi, present and ornate, while still recorded in a bedroom. The EP will see release from Trekky Records on March 20, 2007.
All Alone in an Empty House is the third full length album from Ari Picker's Lost in the Trees. An intensely personal synthesis of traditonal folk and classical music, the album shows Picker's songwriting and composition at its strongest and most confident. The album comes in only one format: a multimedia collection of a vinyl record, compact disc and digital download.
Fireplace
Time Taunts Me is in some ways a "best of" compilation of Ari's songwriting.
We see new versions of old songs, totally filled in with full orchestral arrangements and vocals. A sharp, mature, hi-fi alternative to the scary pop of Lost in the Trees.
Tall Trees
Lost in the Trees is Picker's first effort under the name Lost in the Trees.
It is dark and beautiful but somehow remains in the realm of pop. The instrumentation is
astounding. The pianos, strings and saws ache with the somber wonder of Christmas.
