![]() Trekky Records is a record label and collective based out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It was founded in 2001 by Chapel Hill natives Martin Anderson and Will Hackney as an outlet for their friends' music. At the time, both were just in high school, and they ran the label out of Will's house and car. Over the years, the label has grown into a collaborative community of over 40 musicians and artists, working closely together on various musical projects. The label's mission is to restore to Chapel Hill the vibrant indie scene that it was once famous for, by helping the countless network of local musicians to release and distribute their music. Trekky is about collaboration: between bands, artists, labels, venues, record stores and people. Trekky does not accept demo submissions, but if you want to do a show, please email. ![]() ![]() Trekky was originally started so we could release our own music. We found it fruitless to wait for another label to help us out, so it was necessary to start our own. Soon after, we were exposed to a local high school band called Westfalia who would become Trekky's first new band. Westfalia was technically a side project for members of Straight No Chaser, who also joined the label in the early days. Josh Kimbrough and Joe Norkus of these bands are part of the core of Trekky Records, as members of multiple bands on the label. Later, our close friends Vibrant Green joined the Trekky Mafia. Unlike our previous bands, Vibrant Green already had a following and substantial local critical acclaim. Next to join were more high school friends, the Beauregards, who we used to go see at Skylight Exchange, sometimes playing with Westfalia and Straight No Chaser. Again, the members of this band would go on to form other Trekky bands after their eventual breakup. We wanted to create a label that was an outlet for any music these people wanted to create, regardless of the bandname. In 2004, our good friend Russell Holbrook contacted us about releasing his next Choose Your Own Adventure album. We were honored and happy to work with Russell, someone a good deal older and a staple in the Chapel Hill indie scene. As people moved on to college, the next wave of Trekky bands used different names, but were composed of familiar people, including Participation Award (members of the Beauregards) and Mortar and Pestle (members of Westfalia and Straight No Chaser). Next, Ari Picker, who recorded the Beauregards and our band Alvarez Painting, joined the label with his solo work, Lost in the Trees. We had worked with Ari a lot in the past and were glad to finally release something for him. Not long after that, his band, The Never, officially came to Trekky, after being involved with the label for years. Our most recent addition is Endless Mic, a hip hop duo with Stuart Bell from the Beauregards and Participation Award, and our good friend Ryan Maiani. Although we have released primarily indie rock in the past, we are convinced that who you work with is more important that what category their music falls under. We want to create a community where various forms of music are appreciated and nurtured. You should support local music regardless of genre or label. We are lucky to work with great friends who coincidentally are amazing musicians, as well. Thanks for supporting Trekky. ![]() ![]()
