Alvarez Painting formed in late 2002 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. At the time, all the founding members of the band were in high school. The band was started on a whim while Trekky
founders Will Hackney and Martin Anderson and brothers Dylan and Ryan Jarrell waited outside before a show at the now closed GO! Room 4. None of them
could really play any instruments, but it seemed as good a time as any to learn. As all the members hail from Chapel Hill and
the town's significant indie history has provided an important influence. Alvarez believes in dynamic: comfortable in sounding like an avalanche or a candle, either one. The band
became fascinated with melding challenging music with extreme melodicism. From the summer of 2004 to the spring of 2005, Forecastle Helm was pieced together over various sporadic recording sessions with Ari Picker (The Never, Lost in the Trees).
In the fall of 2004, Ryan left the band to go to school in Pennsylvania. Ross Connolly, a close friend of the band, took Ryan's
place as bassist and truly made it his own. After a few years of live shows around North Carolina, the band decided to take an indefinite hiatus. All members now play with Trekky's label-wide band, Auxiliary House, and hope
to return to active Alvarez writing in the coming months.
Forecastle Helm is Alvarez Painting's first album, full of heavy and beautiful indie rock.
Specifically treated with are the themes of humans' place in nature, betrayal, and the clash of human interaction.
